Join us for The Marshall Lecture, an inspiring evening celebrating the legacy of water research at UNSW and the exciting future of the water
This year’s lecture, “The many faces of Nitrification: From fundamental understanding to paths towards more sustainable nitrogen management”, will set the scene through the work and great achievements of Prof. Dr. Dr. H.C. Michael Wagner.
Prof. Wagner will lecture on sustainable nitrogen management, one of the most pressing challenges in water and environmental science, sitting at the intersection of fertiliser loss, eutrophication, and greenhouse gas emissions, yet indispensable for efficient wastewater treatment.
His group has been at the forefront of untangling this complexity, having discovered and characterised important new nitrifying bacteria and archaea, including the long sought-after complete nitrifiers.
Following the lecture, a panel discussion will showcase the research and perspectives of early to mid career researchers from UNSW alongside Prof Wagner driving real change in the sustainable management of nitrogen.
