Revitalising Informal Settlements and their Environments | RISE
RISE is a transdisciplinary research program working at the intersections of health, environment, and water and sanitation.
RISE is trialling a new water sensitive approach to water and sanitation management in informal settlements across Makassar, Indonesia and Suva, Fiji.
Working with communities, governments, local leaders and partner institutions, RISE is co-designing location-specific solutions that integrate green infrastructure, such as constructed wetlands, to strengthen the whole-of-life water and sanitation cycle.

The Love Food Hate Waste @CUHK–Education Campaign and Food Waste Reduction & Recycling Programme expected to turn the campus into a ‘living laboratory’ for food waste reduction and recycling. Coming from a highly modified state, the success of our creek rehabilitation works will depend on introducing new resilience against the impacts of storm water pollution, local flood and drought effects (erosion, algal blooms etc) and weed incursion.

Living Labs at Penn State
Their goal is to institutionalise the use of Penn State campuses for Living Labs projects in order to provide transformative learning experiences. By using and improving Penn State operations, Living Lab projects can directly enhance the University’s academic, research and service activities.

University of Nairobi | CAMA project living labs (Collaboration for Active Mobility in Africa)
Collaboration for Active Mobility in Africa (CAMA) project used Living Labs as real-life, participatory testing grounds in Kampala (Uganda), Nairobi (Kenya), and Mekelle (Ethiopia) from June 2021 to May 2025. These labs collaboratively designed, tested, and evaluated physical and non-physical street interventions to make walking and cycling safer, more inclusive, and better integrated into everyday urban travel.

The Centre for Innovation in Sustainable Construction (CICS) at the University of São Paulo hosted a series of workshops to engage industry partners, researchers and practitioners in developing innovative solutions for sustainable construction.
