Description: Urban planning and building standards can have long-term impacts on greenhouse-gas emissions and climate resilience. This session explores how government decisions on urban design, planning and construction can support both climate mitigation and adaptation.
Participants will examine policy tools such as proximity planning and building energy codes, alongside locally delivered solutions including green infrastructure, urban cooling and retrofitting existing buildings.
Using contrasting city and national examples, the session will highlight how governments can use planning and building standards to reduce emissions, improve climate resilience and shape more sustainable cities for the future.
