Webinar | Moving Beyond COP Side Events: Expanding the Impact of Research on Climate Change Policymaking
International Universities Climate Alliance (IUCA) hosted a webinar exploring how researchers can contribute their expertise to international climate policymaking, both at COP events and throughout the year.
Facilitated by Professor Tracy Bach, an expert in international climate change law and policy with extensive experience attending UNFCCC COPs and Subsidiary Body meetings, the session examined opportunities to engage beyond side events. These included responding to calls for evidence and submissions, contributing to technical workshops and meetings, and participating in wider policy discussions.
Participants explored how research informs the UNFCCC process, how to identify relevant opportunities to contribute, and other international pathways for engagement, including through the IPCC, Convention on Biological Diversity, Montreal Protocol and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The webinar highlighted practical ways researchers can bring their knowledge and expertise into international policy processes and support evidence-informed climate action.
On behalf of the IUCA, we extend our sincere thanks to Professor Tracy Bach for delivering an excellent and insightful webinar, and for sharing her extensive expertise to help researchers navigate opportunities for meaningful engagement in international climate policymaking.
