From Climate Evidence to Policy Action: Using Lifecycle Thinking and Digital Traceability for Better Decisions
Coventry University | Coventry | United Kingdom
Please Note: This is a recurring session that is being delivered on 28th, 29th and 30th September. You only need to attend 1 of the sessions.
Workshop | 3pm – 5pm, BST
Duration: 2 Hours
Platform: MS Teams
Description: This interactive session will help policymakers move from climate evidence to practical and defensible policy decisions. Participants will be introduced to lifecycle thinking as a way of assessing the environmental consequences of a policy across an entire system, rather than focusing only on visible or immediate impacts. Using an accessible case study from an international agricultural value chain, the session will demonstrate how carbon data, stakeholder evidence and digital traceability can be combined to compare policy options, identify unintended consequences and improve accountability.
Participants will consider the questions policymakers should ask when reviewing environmental claims, including whether the data are reliable, which emissions have been included, who may be affected and whether a proposed intervention simply transfers impacts elsewhere. The session will also examine the potential and limitations of blockchain and other digital tools in supporting transparent carbon reporting. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for evaluating climate evidence and translating it into proportionate, evidence-based policy action.
