AI-Driven Methane Management for Sustainable Rice Cultivation: From Research to Climate Policy

Inland Revenue Office-Ministry of Finance | Nepal | South Asia

Workshop | 2pm – 3pm, NPT (Find Local Time)

Duration: 1 Hour

Platform: MS Teams

Description: Artificial intelligence is transforming how governments design and implement climate policies. This interactive workshop explores how AI-driven Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (AI-MRV) can support methane reduction in rice cultivation while strengthening evidence-based policymaking. Drawing on research from Nepal and international best practices, the session demonstrates how satellite imagery, weather data, field observations, and machine learning can improve greenhouse gas monitoring, evaluate mitigation measures such as Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), and support transparent reporting. Participants will also examine how AI can contribute to climate finance, carbon market readiness, and national climate commitments. Through practical examples and discussion, the workshop will identify opportunities and challenges for integrating digital innovation into agricultural and climate policies, particularly in developing countries. The session is designed for policymakers, government officials, researchers, and practitioners seeking practical approaches to strengthen climate governance through science, technology, and cross-sector collaboration.
