Description: Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development

Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) are becoming increasingly seen as efficient for addressing climate change which also provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. This session will investigate how forests, wetlands, rivers, coastal habitats, and urban green spaces are capable to support humans to respond to climate influences, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve resilience. Participants will learn about the science and the practice of NbS, successful applications and policy applications from around the world and ways in which they can work to incorporate nature as part of their climate planning, decision making, and action. The session will also examine ways for policymakers, researchers, and local communities to collaborate to scale up nature-positive activities. Through connecting climate science with practical policy solutions, this is about training participants to have the knowledge and tools needed to help enact an evidence-based, sustainable climate governance agenda and deliver long-term benefits for humanity and the planet.
