Description: Transport emissions are large, still rising, and politically exposed because policy reaches into daily life and household budgets. We explore two specific policy instruments and the different roles government plays in each: vehicle electrification and road pricing. Government plays multiple roles in supporting the move to electric vehicles, including as a funder incentivising household and business uptake, and as a demonstrator by electrifying its own buses and fleets (Shenzhen; Norway). It also uses regulatory mechanisms such as road pricing to both cut congestion, and replacing eroding fuel excise through user-pays (Singapore). You leave able to separate the purpose and challenges and benefits of using these levers.
