Description: Building Climate Resilience Through South-South Cooperation: Lessons from the Pacific and Caribbean
For Small Island Developing States (SIDS) — the majority of which are located in the Pacific and Caribbean — climate change is <b>the</b> existential threat.
This session brings together policymakers from both regions to share insights from a groundbreaking, six-week capacity-building program for climate policymakers, funded by the Australian government and delivered at the University of Melbourne in partnership with the Pacific Climate Change Centre (PCCC, hosted by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme) and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (5Cs).
As a genuine South-South exchange, the program pairs policymakers from two of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions to co-develop practical policy responses to shared challenges. Concrete outcomes include a new policy addressing heat stress risks for outdoor workers in Dominica, and efforts in Fiji to integrate gender considerations into national loss and damage frameworks.
