Climate Futures in Practice: Tasmania’s Shared Scenario Approach

Tasmanian Policy Exchange | University of Tasmania | Australia

Platform: Zoom

Description: How can organisations prepare for an uncertain climate future while meeting new sustainability reporting requirements?

The Tasmanian Policy Exchange partnered with several Tasmanian Government entities to develop a set of climate scenarios that will underpin reporting against the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards. This collaborative approach is an Australian first, creating a shared evidence base that reduces duplication, improves consistency, and supports more robust climate risk assessment. Importantly, the scenarios have been released publicly to enable other organisations to strengthen their own climate-related planning and disclosure.

This session will explore the methodology used to develop the scenarios, the challenges and opportunities of cross-sector collaboration, and the lessons learned from pioneering a statewide approach. It will also reflect on the unique role universities can play as trusted partners in helping governments navigate complex policy challenges and build capability for the transition to a more climate-resilient future.
