Climate change is the greatest challenge facing today’s and future generations. This global, interdisciplinary, and cross-sectional issue cannot be met with a fragmented response. Fundamental, large-scale change demands a coordinated and collaborative approach that provides comprehensive, sustainable, and actionable solutions.
On April 24, 2023, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and The Trust for Governors Island announced The New York Climate Exchange (“The Exchange”) — a first-of-its-kind international center for developing and deploying dynamic solutions to our global climate crisis. The Exchange represents real innovation in addressing the climate change challenge by bringing together an unprecedented combination of partners and experts in technology, finance, academia, research, government, public health, and environmental justice to identify and scale climate change solutions. IUCA members, New York University, University of Oxford, and University of Washington, are among the 10 current university partners.
During New York Climate Week, from September 17-24, 2023, The Exchange and its partners will host and participate in multiple events including panel discussions, research demonstrations, collaborative events, and a glimpse into continued community activation and public programming. The Exchange will also have a weekend presence on Governor’s Island (8/12, 9/9, 9/17, 9/23) for visitors to view renderings of the capital plan, take a tour to visit the development site, and speak with Exchange staff about current programming plans.
